LEZ — Drive within an unexpired residents' grace period

S.15(1) Transport (Scotland) Act 2019: s.6(1) is NOT contravened where a vehicle is driven on a road within an LEZ before the expiry of the 'applicable grace period'. Each scheme must specify resident and non-resident grace periods (s.15(3)). Glasgow LEZ: enforcement 1 June 2023; resident grace until 1 June 2024. Edinburgh LEZ: enforcement 1 June 2024; resident grace until 1 June 2026. Dundee LEZ: enforcement 30 May 2024; resident grace until 30 May 2026. Aberdeen LEZ: enforcement 1 June 2024; resident grace until 1 June 2026. If V5C address on detection date is inside the published residential grace boundary, no contravention occurred.

Legal basis

Transport (Scotland) Act 2019 s.15, s.16; SSI 2021/177 reg 8(4)(a); council LEZ Scheme Orders under s.9

How to identify this in your case

V5C registered keeper address on detection date is inside the published residential grace area; detection date is before resident grace expiry.
