Inadequate, missing or non-compliant bus-lane signage / road markings

A bus lane must be indicated by the prescribed traffic signs and road markings. Where the signs or markings are absent, obscured, worn away or non-compliant with the Traffic Signs Manual, the restriction is not lawfully established and cannot be enforced.

Legal basis

Road Traffic (Traffic and Parking) Regulations 1997 (S.I. No. 182/1997) and the Traffic Signs Manual — bus lanes must be indicated by prescribed signs and continuous/broken road markings.

How to identify this in your case

Photograph the location showing missing, faded or contradictory signs/markings. Note any absence of the upright bus-lane sign or the road legend BUS LANE.
