Temple Square / Delta Center / Rice-Eccles Event Restriction Confusion

On event days at the Delta Center, Rice-Eccles Stadium, Eccles Theater, and Temple Square (LDS General Conference, etc.), SLC implements temporary parking restrictions via Title 12 §12.56.110 and posts portable signage. Common defenses: (1) temporary signs not posted 24 hours in advance as required by §12.56.110(C); (2) signs covered by approved permanent signs creating contradictory instruction; (3) restrictions for an event you legitimately could not have known about. ParkSLC zone enforcement during events is also frequently miscoded.

Legal basis

SLC Code §12.56.110; MUTCD §6F (temporary signage)

Sample appeal wording

Salt Lake City Parking Appeals RE: Citation #[CITATION] – Event-Day Restriction at [LOCATION] on [DATE] I appeal because the temporary parking restriction was not properly posted under SLC Code §12.56.110(C), which requires 24-hour advance posting of portable signage. When I parked at [TIME], the only visible sign was [PERMANENT SIGN saying ___]. The portable 'NO PARKING [EVENT]' sign was [absent / covered / posted less than 24 hours before]. Photographs attached. I request dismissal. [NAME] / [DATE]

Replace [PARKING DATE], [NtK DATE] etc. with your own dates before sending.
