A controlled parking zone works by telling you the operating hours once, on the sign where you drive in — everything inside is meant to be consistent with it. If the zone entry sign on your route showed one set of hours but the plate at the bay or street where you parked showed different hours (or a different zone name), the signs contradicted each other and could not give you adequate information about when the restriction applied. How to identify this in your case

Drive or walk back along the route you entered by and photograph the controlled zone entry sign, then photograph the plate nearest where you parked. Compare the hours, days and zone letter/name. Any mismatch — different hours, a bay plate silent on times when the bay operates differently from the zone, or plates for a neighbouring zone — supports this ground. Photograph both signs with something that shows their locations.

I make representations against this PCN on the ground that the alleged contravention did not occur and/or there has been a procedural impropriety. I put the council to strict proof, by photographs of the zone entry signs on my route and the signage at the location, that the zone's signing was consistent and adequate at the material time.
